Issue 111: Simple Success
By Paul Evans
=============================
Is it OK for a parent to brag for a second?
Our youngest son, Steven, finished his junior high football “career” last night. He’s not a big kid, but he made some awesome tackles! Chased a boy down on the opening kick off return and saved a touch down.
His old man had a similar experience in 8th grade with one small difference. I lunged at the boy at the 10 yard line and came up with nothing but turf.
Ahhhh…glory days.
Before pulling today’s profit letter points from that story, there were a couple of questions that came in about Simple Six http://budurl.com/simplesix
“Is this going to be a membership with a monthly fee?”
Nope. In fact, there not even a one-time-offer, upsell, sidesell or any of that other mess. It a straight checkout and get in. No tricks.
“I didn’t see a price on the page. How much will it be?”
All will be revealed on Thursday at Noon, CST.
However, I can tell you that I thought hard about releasing it as a one of my coaching intensives for $497. And that’s still an option down the road, but this initial release will be within reach of everyone.
====================
Simple Success
====================
Contrary to the belief of his grandparents, Steven is not the star of the football team.
But what he lacks in size, he makes up for with hustle and hard hits.
You don’t have to be the smartest, the fastest, the most original, the most technical, or even the coolest to “make it.”
Hustle and hard hits lead to simple success.
Make it a goal to chase down better conversion rates on your squeeze page.
Get up an hour early and write that article.
Turn off the TV and tackle a new project or complete a current one.
My boy got up every morning at 5 am to get to football practice during the season.
Is my 8th grader out hustling you? Is he more committed than you? Is he working harder to play a game than you are on your business?
OK… that was some tough coach talk for the wimps. For the sissies who want to be the star of the team without showing up for practice. For those afraid of getting hit.
Now for the hustlers and hitters who feel like their work isn’t working…
Keep going! http://nicheologyprofitletter.com/2009/09/you-can-make-it/
Stay consistent. Keep showing up. Keeping hitting it.
Success is simple, but not without sacrifice. It doesn’t come without a price.
Success is NOT an Accident,
Paul

I’m sitting here watching the PGA Tour Championship.
I’m also going through some emails to see what the latest offers are.
The shameless lies amaze me. The blind recommendations blow me away.
Example…
One of the emails promises to be THE answer. The writer beats his chest and brags about how much he made with the system last week. Only he did not make money with the system, he made money selling the system. Get it?
Not only that, but the dude does NOT know what’s he’s doing.
His entry into online money was a failure. And another failure. And another failure. Then he got a “big name” to mail for him and he made money.
Strangely enough it was a product on “How to Make Money Online” even though he had never made any money online.
DUH!!
Let’s say I write a book on dunking a basketball (I’m 5’7″). Let’s say I’ve never dunked (I’m 5’7″). But I have a book. Then I get Michael Jordan to send an email for me. Am I going to make money? YES. A lot. But it still doesn’t change the fact that I don’t know how to dunk and am training others to dunk. That’s just dumb.
Watch out for crazy offers. Don’t get sucked in. Most of the people haven’t made any “real” money. They just have people willing to mail for their unproven product.
Listen, I do not expect people to just learn from me. You should learn from a variety of people. Just make sure they know what they are talking about. Many, even among the “big names,” just don’t know how to help real people trying to make money online.
Success is NOT an Accident,
Paul

“Why haven’t you finished that product yet?” I ask.
Here are the usual answers…
“I’m not productive.”
“I have no focus.”
“It just not perfect yet.”
“I’m missing just a couple of pieces and then I’ll be ready.”
Those statements are surface level. They are not the real problem. Almost every business issue I’ve come across as it relates to product develop is connected to one root cause…
Self-esteem.
Confidence.
The block is not education. It’s not time. It’s not vision. It’s belief.
Most people never launch a product because they simply do not think it’s good enough. And 9.5 times out of 10 that relates to the individual, not the information in the resource.
Of course, people do not like to admit that. They want to point the finger at process. They want “blame” the environment rather than the individual. But we’re often more concerned about what people think about US than the product.
It’s not that a person thinks the product isn’t good enough, the problem is that deep down they don’t think they are good enough.
Almost every excuse for failing to finish taps into esteem and confidence.
Multi-million dollar consultant Alan Weiss confirms, “The huge issue is lack of self-esteem. It may not always be preventable, but it is certainly correctable. Recent studies of self-esteem support what I’ve learned and believed for over 20 years: Positive self-esteem is not a causal factor, it’s a result.”
I put together http://uncrushableconfidence.com/ to help people gain and live with confidence.
The reason I get so much done, create products fast and experience a great amount of success in life is related to confidence. I do not move forward weakly or softly.
My friends would agree!
Confidence…
- gives you strength.
- lets you share strong opinions without being obnoxious.
- protects your mind from criticism.
- allows you to stand alone on strong principles when all around you compromise.
- helps you judge the BEST route even if everyone else is conforming and following the crowd.
- creates clarity of action and helps you focus. It eliminates waffling and wondering.
The real secret to online success is YOU!
The better you become the better your business becomes.
Insecurity, low self-esteem and a lack of confidence will prevent your business from moving forward. Doubt kills your direction.
Be strong. Be confident. Move forward with certainty.
People do not follow insecure leaders.
Success is NOT an Accident,
Paul

I’m on a 2 day retreat with one of my biz partners.
It’s been relaxing.
We…
- rebuilt our business
- wrote several emails
- created a new product
- outsourced graphics
- bought new domain
- started writing copy
All while enjoying an awesome rural setting…

Country store. Breakfast of eggs, grits and bacon.

Just step up and order.

My lake office. Simple.

Issue 110: Simple Focus
By Paul Evans
=============================
Before getting into this issue I’d like to thank you for all the positive and inspiring comments from this “simple” series.
This series is super fun because it’s based not in tactics, but a philosophy. These concepts can help you simplify your business and life.
My friends joke on me about my “3s” also known as “Trifecta Training.” Just about every aspect of my business can be found in 3 steps or a 3 process.
Nicheology is a 3: Find your niche. Build your list. Launch your product.
Online business is 3: Traffic, list, offers.
It keeps me focused. I do not try to do everything, I do 3 things.
3 traffic methods per niche.
3 revenue streams from a market.
3 goals for the day.
…and so on.
Are you trying EVERYTHING? There’s no need. That’s why you’re distracted. That why you’re not making the progress you want. That’s why the simple life hasn’t materialized yet.
Concentrating on just three points provides focus.
Trying to complete a get done list of 50 elements seems huge. But focusing on just three of the 50 at a time makes it super possible.
For example…
A while back I mentioned that the biggest chunk of profit was coming from an area I was spending the least time on. In fact, the entire business model is embarrassingly simple.
I also mentioned putting together a resource to teach you the system. Well, it’s not getting done in a day. Each morning I’m taking 3 steps toward the goal. And the plan is to be finished next week.
By breaking down the project into small, doable steps it’s possible to focus on what needs to get done right now.
The Simple Focus Formula:
01 :: WHAT do you need to get done?
Write down what you are going to do and each piece required.
02 :: How long will it take?
Write down an estimate of the amount of time it will take you to get the step you’re focusing on finished.
03 :: When will you do it?
Schedule the time. Write it down. And work ONLY on the step during that segment.
This isn’t rocket science. It’s simple. Being productive is easy. You just need to use the 3 points above and then have the discipline to ignore the typical distractions.
Success is NOT an Accident,
Paul

It’s Simple Life Saturday.
http://nicheologyprofitletter.com/2009/09/simple-life/
It’s been a great week!
-Collected $10K for orphans! (If nothing else went right this week, that would make it a success!)
-Guest on a webinar with Carrie Wilkerson for her Pink Slip Series.
-Guest on an upcoming training series Jonathan Gunson is releasing.
-Guest on John Morgan’s marketing coaching call.
-A lot of high-quality, super new members at AffiliateDrivenProfits.com People you just love to work with. (Honestly, I was afraid that a site at this price would attract whiners. Instead, the super-sharp have shown up.)
-Updated Nicheology with an Animoto tutorial, Products in the Rough and Product Profiles.
-Revamped an old project.
-Worked on a new release.
What does this have to do with YOU?
Two words…
KEEP GOING!
Keep working.
Don’t give up.
Keep learning.
Keep applying.
Get something productive done in your business TODAY.
You can do it.
You can make it.
There are thousands of people online right now who are so close to quitting AND so close to making it!
Look at my list above.
All that is happening NOW because I didn’t give up.
When my domain expired on a day when I had spent $2500 on traffic, I didn’t quit.
When I couldn’t get anyone to promote my first product, I didn’t quit.
When my first website looked so bad it embarrassed the family, I didn’t quit.
When I lost a product that was 85% complete to a power surge, I didn’t quit.
When I couldn’t figure out how to make a header graphic that didn’t look like crap, I didn’t quit.
When I lost a 32,000 member email list when my auto-responder went out of business, I didn’t quit.
When a programmer went awol and refused to update my membership software and a 700 member site went to 76 members, I didn’t quit. (I won’t lie I WANTED to quit!!!!)
When a programmer could/wouldn’t fix the affiliate software and I had to figure out affiliate commissions manually and create manual payments, I didn’t quit.
When my shopping cart company had a problem during one of my launches and 93 new high-paying members were lost forever, I didn’t quit.
You get my drift.
You can make it, but you’re going to WANT to give up and quit.
Don’t.
The “simple life” comes to those who keep going. Those who don’t give up. Those who keep going when the going blows up.
You can make it.
Success is NOT an Accident!

Issue 109: Simple Self
By Paul Evans
=============================
We began this series by looking at designing and defining a “simple life” …
http://nicheologyprofitletter.com/2009/09/simple-life/
Here are a couple of the comments…
Paul,
I found this post inspiring and moving.
Taking a risk to follow your heart/your passion gives you energy to your future and breathes life into your dreams. By stopping and asking yourselves what we really want. And writing them down- as you so brilliantly suggested- will alter the direction of your dreams. Because as soon as you realize you are headed in the wrong direction- you have the power to make a new choice- one from your list- a choice that has meaning for you- a choice that can deliver you the life you desire.
Loved your post. Keep on writing.
Thanks, Lolly Daskal, Lead From Within

Paul,
Thanks so much for distilling your thoughts into such a simple formula. Most of us find that once we get the “shiny objects” they just take a lot of work to care for and maintain. Usually they provide only fleeting satisfaction.
However, if our true desire is for a Rich Lifestyle then we have it within our being to construct it. The beginning is being clear . . . real clear on what it is we really want.
Looking forward to this next series. Thanks.
Blessings. Dan Scott

Once you write down the life you want/desire it’s time to move forward. It’s time to take the first step in creating that life.
Here’s where it gets a little tricky.
NORMALLY, we see the process like this…
01: Goal
02: Plan
03: Action
…and we think, “OK, got the goal. I want to reach my simple life through online business. I’m going to buy a course and be on my way.”
That’s the way it works in theory.
But there’s something flowing through each step of the formula that cannot be ignored, but often is ignored.
The Ignored Factor
You’ve heard people ask something similar to…
“What’s the #1 reason for online failure?”
Well…
It’s the same answer for “Why can’t more people lose weight?”
It’s the same reason some advance in the work force and others don’t.
It’s a three letter answer…
YOU.
Your success is dependant on you. Reaching the goal depends on you. Living the life of your dreams is linked to you.
And get this…
I rarely meet anyone who is not smart enough, or talented enough to make it online. But out of the 1,000s I meet each year there is a pattern holding the vast majority back.
Personal insecurity. Not a deep level. A very soft, surface level. Nothing drastic or therapy worthy.
Hovering right on the surface rests nagging self-doubt.
“That will work for them, but not me.”
“I don’t have the connections.”
“What if no one likes my product?”
“What will people think?”
We come out of the starting blocks in a sprint, but then we see the other runners. We see the crowd. We start to believe that every stride is critical.
But it’s not. We can sprint across or we can crawl across, but we still make it to the finish. Online business is not about finishing first, or even best; it’s about finishing.
But most give up.
Sad.
If you are serious…
If you REALLY want to make an extra $100, $1000, $10,000, $100,000, $1,000,000+ online, invest at least 25% of your budget in YOU.
Online systems flood the market. It’s the engine behind those systems, YOU, that makes the difference.
The better YOU become, the better your business will become.
The better YOU become as an individual, the better products you will create.
The better YOU become, the greater the impact you will have.
The secret to success online and offline is YOU.
Today look back over your Simple Life design you created last week. What type of person do you have to become for that to be real? What areas do you need to grow in? What strengths do you need to rely on? What relationships do you need to build?
If you are going to invest in ONE personal development resource, I recommend “The Strangest Secret” by Earl Nightingale. You can find the original recording free online.

Issue 108: Simple Life
By Paul Evans
=============================
Friday night I spoke to over 1500 teenagers… adolescents… hormone jacked Joes and Janes.
It was like looking at little, baby faced children.
I mean they looked YOUNG. My own kids were in the group. And it hit me. If they are that young, I must be getting…. OLD!!!
And yet, for some reason I love it. Things are a lot clearer at 41 than they were at 30, or twenty.
Life and business are wrapped in simplicity.
Uncomplicated fundamentals.
Over the next few weeks, we’ll look at some very simple parts of business. Actually, we’ll be looking at business start to finish. And it will be simple.
But I need to warn you of two things…
First, you still have to work. Simple does not mean effortless.
Second, most of this will be common sense. Stuff you know. Stuff you know but you’re ignoring. And because of that you’re not making any money. Or at least not the money you want to make.
About a hundred times throughout this series some will say, “I already know that!”
Nope. They don’t.
Oh… they know it in their heads, but not heart and hands. And until it hits the heart and hands those folks really have no clue.
– Really. Take my word for it. What’s in your head does not count. In fact, it’s worthless until applied. Because application proves if you’re right or wrong.
Sort of like my buddy who KNEW what it was like to have kids before having them. He read the books. He and his wife watched how others parented (and critiqued them). If I told a story about my boys, he was quick to offer advice.
Then something happened.
Yep.
Child #1.
Then he found out he was stupid.
(He called for advice, but I told him to check page 36 of one of his books.)
Then…
Child #2.
He discovered he was an idiot.
That’s just the way it goes. When head (intellectual) collides with hands (physical) and heart (emotional) reality shows up.
With that in mind, let’s begin…
Simple Life
The path to making simple money begins with mapping out your simple life.
A lot of people will tell you to create dream boards, to shoot for the moon and make big hairy audacious goals.
I agree…
IF…
That’s REALLY, REALLY, REALLY the life you REALLY want.
You see, I think most people are like Steve in the movie “The Italian Job.”
Each member of the Italian Job team had stuff they wanted to get with the score.
Lyle wanted a home theater system that would knock your clothes off.
Handsome Rob had a cool car he wanted, and so on.
After Steve thought he eliminated his teammates, he bought the house, cars and gear they had all mentioned wanting.
Steve did not have his own dreams, he stole them from others.
I see that all the time online. People see that a certain type of marketer brags about having the big house, the yacht, the Ferrari’s and immediately they think, “Wow! I want that stuff too! I want that lifestyle.”
Really? Does that really consume your thoughts? Is that really how you want to spend your days?
I spent a year looking for the car I wanted. Not a Ferrari, but I looked at Porsches, Mercedes and BMWs. For a year. It got frustrating. I could not find the car I wanted.
Then I stopped.
Took a few steps back and it hit me…
I didn’t REALLY want any of those cars. I wanted something dependable with good gas mileage. It’s just transportation to me. Know what I got? A Honda Accord. And I love it! Strange, huh?
Then I started to think, “If I was wrong about a vehicle, maybe I’m wrong about what I want from life. What should my average day REALLY look like and FEEL like?”
Well, here’s the list I came up with….
- Never miss our sons’ games or events.
- Never have to say “no” because I could not control the schedule.
- Travel to mission zones and check on orphans whenever.
- Take my wife on special trips to cool places.
- Wake up early and work on important projects then have the rest of the day to work or play.
- Be more involved at church.
- Help as many people as possible find their profit position so they can live the life they want.
WHAT?!!!!!!
There was no real “stuff” on the list. I thought I wanted things, but I didn’t. I REALLY wanted flexibility and freedom.
Whew! Life suddenly became a lot more simple. Not worrying about how to get and keep stuff lightened the burden.
So, let me ask it again…
What type of life do you really want?
What do YOU want your average day to look and feel like? Describe it in detail (much more detail than my bullet points).
Don’t think that stuff is what you really want just because someone put it on a sales page somewhere. What’s your picture of simple life?
Write it down.
For real.
Get out a sheet of paper. A yellow legal pad. A journal.
Drop the barriers for a moment and open your heart.
Maybe you want to take you kids to school then meet the fellas at the club for a round of golf. Maybe you want to give more money to charity. Maybe you want to travel the world and help the homeless. Maybe you want to get a nice home on a lake and fish. Maybe you want to control your time and your dimes.
Forget what everyone else says you should want. Forget what they say your goals should be. What are YOUR goals? You get one life. You have one shot. Shape your life with simplicity and watch the effects.
Next time, we’ll take the first step in achieving the life you’ve designed.
Success is NOT an Accident,
Paul
P.S. This is the type assignment you’ll want to think about, but not actually write down. Don’t fall for it. There is a connection between the physical, mental and emotional.
When you write it down, your mind will start planning ways to make it happen. Your heart will attach itself to the images and not want to let go.
You might think this is sissy talk.
Fine.
But I’m living every single one of the bullet points above.
I’d rather be a sissy living a reality, than a macho man with another’s dream and no plan.

Happy “Labor Day.” Check out the origin… http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Labor_Day
The family is packing up and we’re heading out from Disney World. It was an awesome trip!

Issue 107: Make It Happen
By Paul Evans
====================================
Health care in America.
It’s a hot topic here right now.
Regardless of where you fall in the debate one thing is true…
If we began to eat better and exercise more the talk would be a lot less heated.
Eliminating tobacco… eating less hamburgers and fries (sniff, sniff) and getting our butts lapping it around a park would make a huge difference.
You see, most of us have DECIDED to have poor health and are upset with healthcare. When most poor health be avoided (not all, but most).
Let’s take it a step farther… and this will be a sensitive issue to some… but it won’t change the facts.
97% of the people I’m seeing in scooter chairs and wheel chairs here at Disney DECIDED to be in one. The diet they CHOSE put them there. A lack of discipline, not a genetic problem or disease, put them there. And most of them could make a new set of decisions and be out of those things in about a year.
But they won’t.
Why?
The same reason most people will never make any real money online.
Lack of discipline.
Most folks wait for things to come along instead of making them happen.
Waiting doesn’t make you money – WORKING makes you money.
Working is how we MAKE things happen.
“But Paul you don’t know about my situation…”
We ALL have “situations.” But some people DECIDE to MAKE a change.
(There’s a guy whose BLIND in internet marketing and he’s making $50K+ a month! You’re telling me that you got a bigger reason than that for not making it online??)
“People are always blaming their circumstances for what they are. I don’t believe in circumstances. The people who get on in this world are the people who get up and look for the circumstances they want, and, if they can’t find them, make them.” George Bernard Shaw
What will you DO today to change where you are?
What ACTION will you take?
How will you better control your time?
How will your master your life?
At least 90% of where we are right not is not some mysterious exterior force. It’s because of decisions we’ve made. Change your decisions and you change your circumstance.
Stop waiting and start working. And if everything doesn’t fall in place you keep trying until you discover what works for you.
Success is NOT an Accident!!!
