Number One Reason

On May 27, 2011, in coaching, by Paul Evans

“What’s the #1 reason people fail online?”

I’ve written and taught extensively that the #1 reason for online business failure is blindly trying to copy another’s system. We’re all different. Different wiring. Different personalities. Different interests. That’s why being trying to be the same as everyone else does not work.

However…

The #1 reason for online failure is more simple. More primal…

Unfinishing.

Stopping.

Quitting.

Almosting.

“I’ve almost got my squeeze page up.”

“I’ve almost gotten my product done.”

“I’ve almost decided on a checkout and affiliate system.”

Almost…

Author Steven Pressfield calls this The Resistance.

Out of nowhere, terror strikes. Our fragile confidence collapses. Nighttime: we wake in a sweat.

That YOU SUCK voice is back, howling in our head.

Almost is resistance. It’s the thing that prevents you from finishing. It’s the small tone of insecurity that tells you you’re stupid for ever trying this. Who are you to create a product? What if no one likes this book? What if I look like an idiot?

It’s the words of a friend that explains how you need to get a job instead of trying to sell air. How you’re trying to get something for nothing. How respectable people hold down a respectable job.

At every turn there’s a whisper or a shout clearly letting you know what cannot be done.

There’s little doubt that you CAN make it – the real question is WILL you make it?

Online business is like diet and exercise. People start out strong. Then they look for a way to cheat the system. Then they quit. Then they complain about the “diet” not working.

Let’s go a step farther…

Do you know why the P90X workout has so many success stories? Because it kicks your butt for 90 days and the people who don’t quit are forever changed. Success is inevitable. But I guarantee there are plenty of folks who stopped on day nine and said, “This doesn’t work.”

Bull. The program works. The person didn’t.

We can even complete a project and quit. The salespage is up. The product’s for sale. We contact a few affiliates. They reject us. So we quit. And that’s the precise time the real work begins. The page and product are the easy stuff. Partners and traffic are the hard stuff. And when the going gets tough… most folks… give up.

Resistance constantly looks for an excuse to quit, to give up to almost make it, but never quite. And that’s the #1 reason for failure online. Don’t fall victim.

What have you stopped working on? On what project or product as the small voice won and forced you to fold?

Success is NOT an Accident!
Paul

P.S. Leave a comment. I will do a random drawing next Wednesday, June 1 and send the “winner” a copy of “The War of Art” and “Do the Work” by Steven Pressfield. I guarantee reading and applying these books will get you to the finish line!

method 8

On May 23, 2011, in list building, by Paul Evans

The other day I emailed and mentioned that one of my new lists has grown by over 1,600 this month. Another over 10,000 since the first of the year.

I also mentioned that I’m working on a discount on the course I took to get these results.

Here’s one more report…

That’s the Google Analytics report from one of my niche sites.

Using just method 8 in the course the site went from averaging 30+ hits a day to over 700 in just a few days.

Here’s what is important, I had not used this method before.

Note: When trying new products I do so as much as possible as a newbie. You see, if I get results as an “expert” that doesn’t really count, does it? It’s sorta like a powerlifter saying, “Hey I just dead lifted 706 pounds, let me show you how!” Obviously a beginning lifter can’t do that. So these experiments I report are based on being average at internet marketing, not being a pro.

This past weekend I talked to the course creator and he’ll have the page ready with the discount later today.

Jose & Sam.

Once I approve it, I’ll send you an email. Most likely that will be tomorrow since I am taking the rest of today off.

My family and I are in Mexico visiting Jose’. As many of you know, he’s a child we sponsor.

I want to take a moment and thank all those who have helped 100X Missions build orphanages around the world. Whether you buy a product from me, are a member of Nicheology, or you give directly to 100X… you are rescuing orphans around the world!

Brain Sales

On May 18, 2011, in paul's secrets, by Paul Evans

Yesterday I billed a local company for $10,250. The “job” took a few hours.

It had NOTHING to do with internet marketing. Nothing to do with websites. Nothing to do with speaking or presenting. Nothing to do with consulting.

The reason I am able to do that is… everything is for sale.

Any skill, talent or thought is available for purchase. If I feel confident about delivering value, I put a price tag on it. Usually, a high one by most standards.

When people ask for an estimate of one of my services, I answer, “Somewhere in the neighborhood of A LOT! You can hire a dozen people to do what I do. The difference is… I will do it better and faster. You pay me for speed. If you’ve got six months save the money and get someone else. If you want it this week, hire me and pay a premium. It will be DONE and off your plate.”

Years ago, I put this simple process of selling everything in a report that I never released. It’s called Brain Sales.

It’s 100% unedited. It’s 100% free.

The formula in the report is…

Mass Inventory + Market + Mode = Money

Success is NOT an Accident,

Paul

P.S. You’re probably wanting to know what I did for that $10K. Not telling. Here’s why…

If you can do the same thing, you’ll think…. “Oh… that’s what I need to do.”

If you can’t, you’ll think, “Sure that works for Paul, but I do not have that skill.”

This concept of selling everything has NOTHING to do with me, and everything to do with you.

Use Brain Sales to make your own list. Create your own personal offers. And as you have conversations with family, friends, co-workers, business owners, etc. – listen for opportunity.

Domain Names

On May 15, 2011, in paul's secrets, by Paul Evans

I’ve got two ways I use domain names that I don’t talk about.

#1 Aged ORG domains

Buy domains 5+ years with your keyword in the domain name.

Then use those to point to the main site you want to increase your rank on.

These established domains help ranking and many are already ranked well themselves.

#2 New Trend Domain Names

Google’s VIP of Engineering says that each month 20-25% of the searches are new phrases.

Jumping on new phrases directly related to your market allows you to leverage current conversations.

You can set up a ton of google readers and monitor yourself or you can use something like this, which works great.

Year 7 :: Surge

This is the final installment in this 7 year anniversary series!

(And it won’t be a long article either.)

Thanks for all the emails and cards congratulating us on 7 incredible years.  You don’t stay around this long without consistently sharing great content, training and coaching. It just doesn’t happen.

In year seven I am focusing on… Surging.

Let me beat up the industry for a moment. The general “hope-sell” approach in internet marketing is… “You can be nothing and do nothing and still make it big.”

I’d think that was a joke if I did not see that attitude on so many sites.

It’s stupid.

It’s sick.

As we’ve seen in this series, business involves risk. It also demands sacrifice. Which creates a surge.

Gary Vaynerchuk’s book title says it best… “Crush It!” That’s the ultimate surge.

Not holding back.

Not being timid.

Not letting fear tug at your productivity.

Surging is about creating unstoppable momentum.

Not allowing your dreams to wilt.

Not allowing discouragement to derail you.

You CAN make it. Stay focused. Stay on task. Stay the course.

As Sir Winston Churchill said October 29, 1941

“Never give in. Never give in. Never, never, never, never--in nothing, great or small, large or petty--never give in, except to convictions of honor and good sense. Never yield to force. Never yield to the apparently overwhelming might of the enemy.”

“The enemy” will often come in a small inner voice.

He will tell you, you can’t make it. He will say it’s too hard. He will tell you, you’re not good enough. He will claim that your website, your products, your copy is too imperfect to be made public.

Don’t fall for it.

Surge.

Surge and assault the barriers holding you back.

Surge and fight until you reach the goal.

Business is not for the weak hearted or those expecting a miracle.

Success comes to those who work with strength and patience.

Because, as always…

Success is NOT an Accident!
Paul

stance

Year 6 :: Stance

In year 6, I became much more vocal about the lie that “one-size-fits-all” in online business.

The basic stance is…

“People fail to make money online because they are trying to clone a model that does not fit them.”

Throughout the year I taught the difference in the employee and entrepreneur mindset. That cloning a system did not guarantee success. That separating your business from your voice is dangerous.

Jeremy’s Letter really brought the message home.

(I recently moved the video from my other site and lost the comments. But the response was massive. This message connected!)

Out of that video came The Core Four. It takes the four core internet business personalities and shows you a model for each. This has been a major breakthrough for many Nicheology members.

That training has created a greater response than any other I’ve done.

Why?

Because for the first time people discovered they could build a business based on who they are.

Almost everyone has been told they need to change. They aren’t good enough. They’re messed up. They’ve got bad wiring.

Heck, I was ADHD before it was popular.

My mom may have been the reason Ritalin was developed. She PUSHED for research!!! :-)

I was the kid who couldn’t sit still. Always had a comment. And exasperated anyone who had to take care of me.

Barbers would say, “Don’t bring him back!”

Baby sitters would scream, “Don’t call me again!”

Day care centers would call, “Rebecca, could you come get Paul? We are not equipped to handle children such as your son.”

I was a terror! :-)

But instead of becoming something I’m not, my mom taught me how to bring out the best of my strengths and soften my weaknesses.

She helped me be a better me.

(And that’s another one of my stances. “The better we become the better our businesses become.”)

It’s like in the last article where I shared how Sam learned to learn.

Once he discovered how HE processed information the gloves came off! Things turned around. As long as he tried to learn like everyone else, he struggled. But once he tapped into his strengths, everything changed.

That’s what happens in business too.

When you are not true to who you are, you’re erecting a barrier to your success.

As long as you buy the products of people who say, “Be like me” you’re gonna fail.

Who are you in business? (If you don’t know, then go watch Jeremy’s Letter right now.)

What’s your stance in your niche?

How is your voice different and distinct?

What impact are you making in your market?

There's no doubt that Nicheology is totally different than every other internet marketing site out there. We train people to maximize their strengths and build real businesses, not become puppets.

In part 7, we'll look at the last "S" of S.U.C.C.E.S.S.

Success is NOT an Accident!
