Consumerism [131]

On November 24, 2009, in internet marketing, by Paul Evans

As we roll into the holidays people are consuming like crazy!

Food and deals alike!!

Here’s the thing, you DO NOT want to be a consumer when it comes to online business. It’s not about not buying stuff. It’s about buying with the right purpose and intent.

Here’s how to make a subtle shift in your thinking…

Consumer = one of the crowd

Owner = ahead of the crowd

  1. Paul,

I agree totally. Changing your mindset is powerful… but only if you take action.

One of the most powerful mindset changes you inspired me was simplicity and being consumable. I was stuck at the starting gate of my idea because there was so much information out there regarding “success” and “dreams” that I did not see how I could offer anything of value.

There was also so much information on how to start an online business and hefty fees to learn, I was beginning to get discouraged and confused.

After listening to you, I realized that one of the problems is that because there is so much information, it is not consumable for a person like me… rather it is overwhelming and that prevents someone like me from taking action. The only feeling we get is bloated and sick from information indigestion… which only makes us want to lay down and quit before we begin.

By following your advice and simple model from “Simple Six Figures”, I have taken action to put together a simple, consumable and actionable program geared to help people rediscover and chase their passions in life…. the KEY and FOCUS is making it consumable for ordinary people like me, so there is action that follows.

THE KEY was listening to your mindset, based on your experience as a guide and example for my passion.

I am trying to come up with a “positive” domain name to compliment the “Blah Stinks.com” name because I am just a few weeks away from taking the site live, with a completed Webinar course, E-book and workbook as an initial offering and then a monthly release program to support and expand the initial offering.

This is to let you know that I am taking action because of you and the mindsets and principles you share.

    Thanks again,
    Jerry Campbell

Jerry, good luck with that attempt!!!!!!!!!!!

All – it makes a huge difference when we buy with the right mindset and seeing it as a resource.

    2 things happen.

    1. We actually LEARN more. We get more from the product because there’s not the pressure of it having to be EVERYTHING.

    2. We begin to think for ourselves instead of believing the product has to be used “as is.” Which is crazy.

  3. Paul,

As a new consumer of your products, you are helping me change my mindset from consumer to business owner as I am preparing to launch my new web program.

Thank you for your insights and willingness to share with others.

Any tips on how to convince my wife that going to “Quaker Steak Wings and Grill” with the guys, watching college basketball and eating all you can eat wings and a coke is NOT consumerism, but rather some form of “business owners” research?

    Thanks,
    Jerry

    Hi Paul

That is a very useful perspective! So many times I have bought internet marketing material, only to regret it the next day! Buyers’ remorse!! But I can see that I was viewing it as a consumer – from now on, I’ll see it as an investment!

    Thank you so much
    Robert

Paul, you’ve hit the nail on the head and really helped me put a name to the behavior I’ve noticed about myself the last couple months. I’ve been a consumer! Thank you for your timely message…and now to take action and cancel some more consumer-oriented subscriptions! I’m off to be a business owner!

Happy Holidays, Paul, to you and your family and team.

Great information Paul! This is exactly what I needed to hear today. I was regretting having bought a copy writing course because I knew I was not in the right place in my business to take full advantage of it. But, your message encouraged me to think like a business person: I will be in that place soon enough, and I will be another step ahead because I have already started to learn the fundamentals of copy writing.
All beginners should hear this message. Thanks for sharing it.

I would like to have the opportunity to share with you a marketing system that requires the expertise of someone who not only has the experience but values and insights to bring it to its full potential. I sense that you could be that someone.

Success is not an accident-neither is this email.

    Hey Paul,
I love this philosophy. There is some big power in thinking of investments as part of continued business growth and not THE answer.
