Fake Gurus [168]

On March 8, 2010, in online business, by Paul Evans

Few things get me more excited than helping people succeed.

Few things get me angrier than watching good people get swindled, cheated and misled.

“Fake” Gurus

Would you like to know how some “internet marketing guru” products get created? A bunch of dudes (gurus) huddled at a bar say, “What will the suckers buy?”

Let me tell you a story.

(Hypothetical of course. There’s no way this story could be TRUE. Certainly the following account is not based on FACTS. There’s no way you would believe that I have an inside track to this fictionalize account of REAL EVENTS.)

Newbie comes online.

Buys almost every how to make money package out there. Works hard. Tries all the systems. But nothing works (You’ll understand why by the end of this post.)

He gets mad.

Contacts the gurus. Makes a scene. Whines and cries. Moans. Points the finger. (Maybe the middle one.)

Gurus huddle… “This looks bad.”

“Come here little newbie. Let us show you how it’s done. Just create a how to make money course. We will promote it for you. You will make money guaranteed because people buy everything we tell them to.”

“I’ve never made any money online. How can I teach other people?” says the newbie as he wipes his cheek.

“Doesn’t matter,” the gurus reply. “Once we send emails out for you, you WILL make money. In fact, in the first hour you will make $35,756.87. THEN you can put on your website ‘I made $35,756.87 with my very first launch in a brand new niche for me.’ What do you think about that?”

“I think I am going to be rich!”

That makes me want to throw-up. How about you?

Well, it shouldn’t since none of that is TRUE.

Next issue I’ll share how to determine the guru from the boo boo.

Peace,
P

Can you send me a list of the grus you speak of? I think i just bought into another line of BS. They are charging me thousands of $$$ to train me & set me up to make tons of money. They promise your money back if it does not work, please help.

    Hate to hear that Doris.

    1. Get your money back from anyone who has cheated you.

    2. Most likely they are teaching you tools and systems. But you do not make money with those.

You make money with traffic, building a list and making offers.

    Specifically doing it YOUR way.

It’s no different than the mindset and focus required to open an offline business.

Also, never buy a product to get rich. That’s like attending college because you want to get a job. It just doesn’t work that way.

Buy because you can learn a skill. Advance your knowledge, then leverage than into income.

    Peace,
    P

A year ago that would have been entirely too close to the mark. I pruned a lot of the “Guru’s,” so I could be wrong. The ones worth following, don’t see it that way, Frank Kern in particular. You have to like your customers, if you really want to succeed. The Gurus that treat people right, are the ones doing well. They don’t e-mail c–p, every few days, push c–p affiliate links, etc.

Treat your customers like Platinum (more valuable than Gold), and they will reward you.You will be able to keep selling to them, as long as they need what you have.

    Thanks Paul,
I always enjoy your down to earth approach. It keeps things real and always sends us into the right direction. I’m glad I know you and can learn from you.

I love the Love Guru. For the record, he’s someone who genuinely helps people in the ‘love niche’.

On the other hand, the “I made five figures in five hours” newbie-soon-to-be-mini-guru is a sad story, but then again we all tend to find what we look for. ”

Seek and you will find, knock and the door will open”. If all you’re after is quick money online, then you’ll end up either failing using every ‘system’ (which is bad) or ‘succeeding’ without ever learning the right business principles (which is worse).

I’m about building something that delivers VALUE to people online, and doing that with the utmost integrity. There’s no doubt in my mind that that is how I joined Nicheology.com, became part of the coaching group and am growing into the person I need to be to CRUSH IT.

Getting someone to mail for you is great, but if you don’t have the goods to back it up in you, you’re going to end up as a “Whatever happened to…” Don’t be that guy.
