Hi Paul!
I am so glad I took the time to watch your video this morning. THANK YOU for your passion, your example, and your courage. Since I met you I have been getting up earlier so that I can get work done while my family sleeps so that I can spend more time with them when they are awake. We have had so much more quality time this year! It has been awesome! I am taking time to do the assignment of DEFINING my life and then designing my business to support it! Let FREEDOM ring for generations to come!

Hey Paul,
Thanks for your leadership and prompting people to be their best. I’ve taken on the exercise, and highly respect those you’ve learned from such as Earl Nightengale. Like the Bible, truth is truth, and Earl hit the nail on the head with the Strangest Secret. Here is my Declaration of Independence:
1. Life – The existence in this world of performing a vocation that is both exciting and satisfying. The result of which not only creates satisfaction and personal fulfillment; but also enriches the lives of those I love and care about, as well as all people that cross my path.
2. Liberty – The freedom to choose my vocation willingly, by investing the time and effort in skill building that will create the environment for success.
3. Happiness – Is doing the activities I want, when I want and spending time with those you care most about. It’s the fulfillment of designing a life that pays you back 100-fold because of your focused time and efforts.
I am breaking the chains of time and financial bondage, and declaring by independence by building a number of successful websites that bring more value than expected, and that help others fulfill their goals and objectives. I’m accomplishing this success through mastering the skills necessary to create an online presence that generates massive results.

Dear Mr. Evans:
Saturday, July 10th, 2010 at 12:25am Yokohama, Japan
While I couldn’t agree more with you re your historical analysis (as a former citizen of Williamsburg, Virginia), I very much doubt that the spirit of giving and mutual support is truly alive and well today in The United States of America writ large.
While it is a fact that U.S. charitable organizations exist and that there are philanthropists like Bill and Melinda Gates doing marvelous good works, in the U.S. and abroad, as are you, for a significant part and arguably the majority part the North America citizenry strikes me as a selfish and unhappy and callous bunch compared to say, Canadians or the Danish.
(Proof of the pudding: Denmark was voted as the happiest country in the world in 2009)
Why so? Well the reason is this: many Americans have twisted the idea of the pursuit of happiness into the idea of the pursuit of selfishness. Witness the disgruntled individual who flew his plane into the IRS headquarters in Texas because he was upset about his tax bill.
What so many people fail to comprehend is that The United States is now a nation of some 300 million people, not 4.5 million. What was needed then was rugged individualism to overcome the manifest challenges of inhabiting a mostly inhospitable land.
What is needed now is more cooperation, less ideological grandstanding, more of a can do spirit to actually change society for the better collectively. This is why even China is getting the jump on us.
But no, we don’t see that kind of spirit, especially in the deep South where you hale from. Oh yes, we might see community spirit at the localist of levels ..at the county fair, the vidalia onion or the local beauty contest but what we really see is an atavistic hankering for the movie Giant,>>> James Dean with all its misanthropic baggage.
Thomas Jefferson was a sincere friend of the yeoman farmer. I am a sincere friend of the infopreneur. George Washington was not really an aristocrat but he had an aristocracy of spirit that inspired him to feel for the common man at Valley Forge because he experienced their pain.
This inspired loyalty and social cohesion.
These days we have lost our generosity of manners and the willingness to hold opposing truths in mind.
It so easy to vilify Washington D.C. and advocate dismantling the hard won social safety nets that have been put in place over so many years.
It is like saying that we should eliminate safety belts and air bags.
The pursuit of happiness can not be the pursuit of Adam Smith alone. Read AS very carefully and you will see that even he saw limitations in self interest but I see no such understanding in the libertarians, and others of their ilk.
Best wishes to you for your good work for orphans.
Respectfully,
HAL

Thanks for the great video Paul! I think I am already free but my pursuit for peace and bliss continues. Till I achieve that goal I cannot declare independence.

Thank you so much for your heartfelt video… (I wish I could save it to play over and over again…) It definitely reinforced my plans for the life I am building, and re-energized my resolve to move forward..
You are truly an inspiration to all of us who are in your space. I hope I’ll have an opportunity to meet you one day.

I’m with Don! I do know that if the 2nd amendment would have been on trial after the latest appointee is confirmed, our Constitution would have been shot full of holes MORE than it already has been over the past 6-8 months.
If we care about the country, the principles it was founded on, our Independence, and freedom/liberty, people like this need to be out of the Court, out of the White House, out of the legislative process.
The foot of the gov’t is on the throat of the country… and life, as we know it, is being suffocated out of everything the majority of us stand for. FREEDOM!

Thanks for the video Paul!
It is thoughtful and in some ways provocative. Most importantly it is motivational. I often think about what I value and if I am in integrity with my values, however, in the context of this video what I have been doing has been too much an academic exercise. With just a small shift of my thinking while doing your suggested assignment I have a new context for the work I am doing on the Internet and it is freeing.
Thanks and Blessings,
Charles

Paul: I have lived free for 73 years and now I find myself under of government that is ,making every effort to restore slavery in this country. The apparent direction it is heading in is to “spread the wealth.” This is what socialism is all about.
So us drones out here are expected to work our butts off so that some foreigner from Kenya can inflate his ego.
Sorry Paul. I know you won’t publish this but it is how I feel. This government is dtermined to strip us clean and ,Make us totally dependent on elected baboons who don’t give a damn about the stupid idiots who ekected them.
Paul, you are the only Internet Guru I haven’t shuffled off to my spam filter.

While I don’t share exactly the same feelings, this is still America where freedom of speech still exists.

Wow! What a thought provoking and challenging presentation on Independence and Freedom. I am not one to take my freedom for granted, yet this video has challenged me to clarify and refine my thoughts and write them down. Thank you for that, and God Bless you and yours.

That was a very profound video!
It’s something that I have only recently discovered.
You have to WORK for freedom. It doesn’t JUST happen.
I have been in my current job for 7 years this month and I DO NOT feel like a free man. Increasing amounts of bills to pay, now increasing the age of retirement etc.
I never even thought about exactly what it all means.
You have to earn it and make it happen yourself…you’re FREE to do that!
The freedom Mandela, Martin Luther King, Ghandi etc were talking about was from slavery NOT the kind of freedom and Independence we want as entrepreneurs/marketers etc. That’s much more than basic freedom.
Did that make sense?

Good stuff!
As a Scotsman I can relate to that 7 letter word. Of course we spell it with a few more letters…
FREEEEEEDOM!

Paul,
Great video! Great message!
Most of us – entrepreneurs – start our ventures and take great risks with some kind of freedom in mind. Maybe it is financial freedom or it is freedom from the cubicle or it could be freedom to do what we want when we want.
In the daily grind, however, we often lose sight of our original intent and end up losing the freedom (gasp!) that we set out to achieve. We become shackled to our business or to our pursuit of “stuff”.
I love the way you’ve helped put into perspective what freedom means (or should mean) to a very special breed of entrepreneurs.
Thank you for the insights and the inspiration. I always walk away very inspired by your videos and posts.

Thank you Paul!! I love your sincere heart that clearly comes through your video!! I think along the same lines as you to on building a business around your passion and what deeply important to you! I do not believe happiness and fulfillment is in chasing money or building business only for the sake of how much money you can get! I sincerely believe when you help others by filling THEIR needs and genuinely care about them, the money will come and chase YOU down!!!
God’s continued blessings upon you, your family, and business!
