===========================================
Whew!!
Rode 20 miles this morning in hill country. The 40 MPH downhill stint was cool. But going UP that same hill…well…not as fun.
What IS fun is 5 Guys! Here’s a picture of me with my 5 Guys celebrating the 15 pound weight loss….

A BBQ bacon burger. Yum. Yum. Yum.
When you hit your mark or make your goal reward yourself. It does not have to be extravagant. I wasn’t about to gobble 4 burgers and fries (although tempted), but I did want a prize for staying so focused.
What will yours be? Reward yourself for accomplishments.
(By the way… in addition to the ride… this morning I set up an email list, registered 5 domain names related to a new market and created a new landing page for the market. Nope, did not outsource it. Then uploaded 3 new PLR packages for Nicheology members. Did it all in under an hour. Make a plan and complete it. Man, it’s July 4th. It’s Saturday. It’s a holiday. But you can still git’er done. More on this below.)
Now for the semi-rant………………………..
It’s July 4th here in the U.S.A.
Independence Day.
Independence. Freedom. Liberty.
Bold words. Heavy and filled with promise and sacrifice.
And that’s what I am concerned about in internet marketing. A lot of marketers throw around the term freedom. Financial freedom. Freedom to do what you want when you want.
Certainly that’s possible.
But most of the emails you get and sales letters you hit center on the “promise” of freedom, but not “sacrifice.”
It’s the later that is most important to your online success.
Great men and women sacrificed for the freedom we enjoy in America. They gave their very lives. I am thankful and grateful. The luxury enjoyed came through blood, not ease, entitlement or lazy expectations.
Yet online – ease, entitlement and laziness fuel the dreams of people wanting to quit their jobs, do nothing and just fill their bank accounts automatically.
That’s not freedom.
That’s freeDUMB.
It’s dumb to think it’s going to happen overnight.
It’s dumb to think a single website will create semi-retirement in a month.
Even today your inbox will be filled with freeDUMB offers. Promising you a pot of gold delivered right to your email box or PayPal account.
Now then… let’s talk about that critical word…
SACRIFICE
For the past month I sacrificed food I craved and forced myself to exercise like I haven’t in years. The result? 15 pounds of (mostly) fat loss.
Even today, I rode then came home and worked. Bought domains. Created a site. Loaded resources.
(Make no mistake, I get to have fun and play too. I’ll be going to Mexico where I’ll work in an orphanage for a week. My family gets to travel extensively and experience cool stuff.)
BUT I get to do all that because of sacrificing first. Working first. Rewarding second.
Bottom line if it’s not clear already…
Pursue FREEDOM not FREEDUMB.
Believe in hard work and work hard. Ignore the lies and outright deception about internet riches from ease. Commit yourself to personal and professional growth. Create a 6 month to one year plan and go for it.
You hear about people who say, “I’ve been on the internet for 2 years and haven’t made a penny.” I can just about guarantee they are following the FREEDUMB path.
Forget trying to do it the easy way. Do it the hard way. (Got a story about this in the next issue.) Just DO it…period.
Sacrifice.
Sacrifice sleep.
Sacrifice television.
Sacrifice freedumb and gain real freedom.
Happy 4th!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Very good- sound advice
It is all too easy to get sucked in by the ‘marketing hype’
You gotta do the hard yards- ‘the harder you work, the luckier you get’ ( apologies to whoever said this originally )
I’ll stay tuned and take ACTION; without action, we have only pipe dreams ( wishes and wants )

Hi Paul,
Excellent post. Congratulations on the weight loss and the physical activity. I know that when I go to the gym in the morning I work better the rest of the day.
I’ve certainly be caught in the FreeDumb cycle and I find it hard to resist even though I know that when I’ve falle for the line before it really hasn’t gotten me anywhere.
thanks for the reminder that we have to work and sacrifice to be successful.
Regards … Bob Lemley

Well said! Even though I knew when I first started internet marketing 6 months ago that it takes hard work and will not happen overnight and didn’t believe those wild claims…it is still so easy to be led astray by the thought of easy, no-work success. But as long as you keep reminding yourself to get back on track when that happens, the distractions can be part of your learning process. I’m not where I thought I would be after 6 months, but I know I’m on my way to real success by having real goals.

Hi Paul,
It’s Sunday morning here in Australia and I happened to come across your email at a time when I am about to lose my job because of the GFC in about three weeks and have long been intending to start a business online.
Well …
Now would be a good time. I have long admired your integrity as you stand and tell it like it is, amongst a host of others who carry on about financial freedom and how easy it can be.
It’s getting to a point where I’m about to throttle the next person that sprouts that from the rooftops, however, as you said, it is possible to achieve freedom but it will take hard work and effort and laser like focus.
I truly desire a business that I can call my own, however, my major stumbling block is that I am finding it hard to believe I have anything to offer. Knowledge or experience that someone would pay money for.
Have read a great deal and have a reasonable amount of knowledge on building a business be it online or off but it is knowledge bred from reading not from experience.
Any advice?
Have a great day !
Malcolm.

Paul that burger… makes me hungry!! Think I’m going early to the party…
I believe many people fail to make money online because they don’t have the right mindset to start with. We were all brainwashed. Lifetimes of brainwashing need to be wiped out. Your brain needs retraining. Some self-help books will help immensely. Think & Grow Rich, A Place Called Zero are good material and can be found free online. I believe Think & Grow Rich is on audio too.

Paul,
This post really inspires me alot! This is so true especially when I’ve been guilty for buying so many “FreeDUMB” courses in the past..
Glad that I signed up for Content Goldmine at the very last minute which I considered as a “FreeDOM” road to success…Save my time in writing contents for stuff that I have no knowledge whatsoever and at $29.95, this is 10 times better than hiring ghostwriters…

Excellent post and well-said. I am so tired of the “cracked the code” crap and the daily “do you want to quit your job” emails!
It’s about time someone said this so clearly! Probably the hardest thing for the non-pros (I hate to say “newbie” for someone who’s been doing it for more than a few mths) is getting the right knowledge on niche-traffic-conversion. So I am still struggling, but am willing to sacrifice to reach my goal. Thanks for the encouragement.

Hi Paul,
Great job on the weight loss. I agree with you about freedom or freeDUMB. I subscribe to the old saying “If you think you can or you think you can’t, your right.”

Could you hear me squealing with delight as I read this one? A great big “Amen” on this one! I was just reading through Proverbs yesterday. Over and over and over it talks about the secret to prosperity–good, hard work…diligence…and perseverence. As I read it, I was thinking the same things that you penned so eloquently here! Thanks!
And, congrats on meeting your weight loss and fitness goal! Woohooo! Must be something in the air this year–I hired a trainer and set up twice a day workouts in my “business” schedule. While my body is changing, my business is growing. It is my best year ever! So, I am excited to see how this goal of fitness gives you your best material ever. This post is my most favorite!
Have an awesome weekend!

Paul,
Well said. Thank you! There are a couple of proverbs that have really inspired me over the years. “He who ignores discipline comes to poverty and shame.” “Do you see a man skilled in his work? He will stand before kings, not unknown men.”
Happy 4th!

Hi Paul,
I appreciate you mate!
Your integrity, going against the grain of greed. That is what attracted me to you. You talk STRAIGHT!
So many of us have allowed ourselves to be duped into believing that success happens without activity. But what you’ve put together here with the new Nicheology is superior to when Jimmy and Ryan had the site.
Congratulations on the weight loss challenge to. I know what that is like. You focused like a laser. Good job!

Paul,
Thank you for reminding us that its “sacrifice” that gets us the “freeDOM” we are seeking. Creating a 6-month plan and working it, tirelessly, will set us on the path to online success. We must resist the temptation to flit from one thing to another.
So, here’s to our success (I’m raising my glass)!!
Happy 4th of July!!!!

But Paul the sales copy is so persuasive
I’m ashamed to admit that I’ve been very guilty of looking for the lazy way to make money.
Thanks for reminding us of the difference between fantasy and reality.
Happy 4th,
Kevin.

Well said, Paul!
You’ve made an important distinction which we’d all be smart to keep uppermost in our minds when we take a look at yet another FreeDumb offer of the day!! Marketers have played to our greed and “easy money” wishful thinking for far too long!
In fact, so well, and so long, that we’ve started to believe it’s all possible, just like they’ve said it is. Shame on us!
Happy Independence Day!
John
