Real Guru Test [169]

On March 11, 2010, in online business, by Paul Evans

Q: Ok, how do we recognize a real online business guru?

A: Just ask, “Show me your niche.”

They should be out in the market place still selling, creating and learning (and earning) in non-money-making niches.

Most folks wanting to make money online are in real, day to day markets (health, pets, self-growth, sports, family). And what you do and how you sell there is different from internet marketing. A lot different. So when you’re learning from someone who ONLY teaches how to make money on the internet, then try to use that in your market, it just doesn’t work the same.

Peace,

paul

  1. hey paul,

i wanted to drop by and say hi .. i remember buying one of your products as you were giving the profits away to charity and totaly respect your goals.

so on that point – well done for your work online,

on the other tip of this post,

i kind of disagree with you on the point where if a guru is a REAL guru then he should be working in niches,

i’m not calling myself a guru here and never want to be tagged one
but ive come from niche marketing and left it for the study of internet marketing its self,

and daily im working on becoming better … from the best marketers out there,

could i go into a niche and clean up – HECK YES

am i focused on doing that – NOPE

are my REAL GURU mentors, – NOPE

but i totally dig what you were getting at – because there are so many so called marketers out there calling themselfs gurus to the newbies who just sell crap products hyped up,

because they have no clue on the subject of marketing and are just REAL GURU imbread carbon copy marketers who hype things up in order to make a sale,

    hope i made sence,

and i only dropped by as i read your email with subject line
    The Real Guru Test

and as im writting my report Gurus Nightmare – i wanted to see what you had to say,

cos i got enough to say in the report :)

    again,

i wanted to drop by and tell you i respect what you are doing and your product i bought was TOP quality,

    to success

This is true 90% of the time. The exception is a person who teaches concepts that apply to any business. Human Nature does not change based on whether it takes place in person, or on-line, I’m working on a book that applies to a business wherever they sell, and whatever they sell.
Actually, selling online, means you have to be more courteous, than in person. In person, they have the item in hand, and are reluctant to set it down and just walk out. Online, all it takes is a mouse click to cancel the sale.
However, the way you talk to the customer, and what language you use, is very different, according to the niche.

    Amen to that.

That would leave out about 80% of people =)
and that is a good thing.

I follow very few people now, cuz after some time you realize who’s got useful info and who is just pitching

    Thanks Paul

I think that in end it’s the same. Selling is selling. Huckstering is huckstering. I order to be great you have to be honest. Huckstering will get a sale, and a disappointed customer. An honest sell will get a sale and a happy customer. Thats why I listen to you, I can tell you know what your talking about, and your honest about it.

That is why I appreciate you, Carrie, and Perry. You seemingly add a different touch to internet marketing that is applicable to all and not just some. Way to go!

So, speaking of working in niche’s that are not primarily IM, does that Jimmy D Brown theme convert or not?

    [Reply]

    Paul Evans :

    Hey Gina!

Yep, it will convert. Will just take the work of changing the graphics and such.

BUT… and here’s an idea that i do not see anyone doing.

Think about your niche market. What if you (anyone) created a theme loaded with their own product reviews with affiliate links built it.

That way affiliates could set up blogs, upload the theme and be ready to go. Aff. links would need ot be switched but that would be it.

That would move aff tools from just branded ebooks to branded blogs.

    Peace,
    P

    Gina Parris :

Wow Paul – that’s terrific. That would be pretty huge making a blog preloaded with product reviews and aff links ready for a blogger to come make $$ with you. I have noticed that a lot of readers simply use the RSS feeds though and almost never come to the blog itself. “Branded blogs.” What will you think of next?
I hear you’re at underground today. Have a great time!

I definitely agree. Practice what you preach, right?
