So here I am…

Sitting here in Starbucks @ Georgia Tech.

Aromatic coffee.

Steamed milk rushing the cup like Niagara Falls.

Hustle. Bustle. Eyes waiting to become alert through a caffeine injection.

Here I am…

Pecking away on my MacBook.

Checking text messages on my Iphone.

Wondering which of the thousands of titles lining the shelves of the Barnes and Nobles over my left shoulder will I conquer next?

It’s official.

I’m a nerd! :-)

From bodybuilder to online business builder.

Let the good times roll. :-)

Simple.

Starbucks… a cup of java shaped into an experience.

Apple… computing and communication made cool and chic.

Barnes & Nobles… books by brand and browsing for the betterment of human beings!

Each of those companies connect with their market. They understand what moves the market.

Connection is critical.

The old cliche is true, “People don’t care how much you know, until they know how much you care.”

That’s the real key to connection… caring.

So in this crazy virtual world of the internet how do you connect? How do you care? Here are some ABC’s to apply…

01 : Authenticity.

Just be you.

Share who you are and what you stand for. Help people don’t just sell products. Give a few details from your life. Let people know what’s going on with you. If you love 5 Guys Burgers and Fries, let folks know!

It hard to know who to trust online. We’ve all been disappointed. We’ve all run into the creep that values money over ethics.

When I first got started online I got ripped-off to the tune of $197. I didn’t have it at the time. And I didn’t forget it.

On the other hand. I met some awesome leaders and teachers early on and we are still friends today.

Be authentic and don’t tell people they can trust you, prove it.

02 : Build.

Help your people become better. Solve their problems.

Even though you are free to choose any model you want, I prefer the value model.

I like writing this letter. There are thousands who read and may never buy. That’s cool. From the response we get, I know those readers are better at online business for having taken the time to absorb.

Your business will be stronger and last longer when you build rather than pitch products all the time.

And when it come time to sell something that will help your people (like Simple Six last week), you don’t get massive drop-offs, but massive acceptance.

03 : Charity

Help others.

Do good beyond your business.

As you know, my heart is connected to orphans. Through 100X Missions we build orphanages around the world. Right now we’re in Malawi, India, Moldova, USA and Mexico.

This work builds a deeper connection with many Profit Letter readers. It’s not a trick or ploy. It’s who I am. And readers let me know what they are doing and how they are helping others. Its awesome!

Listen, there are way too many tricks and tactics being taught on email marketing and list pimping. It’s stupid. It’s unethical.

Connection is simple. Be you. Build through your content. Give yourself away through serving others.

Success is NOT an Accident,
Paul

P.S. I know many of these concepts are counter to what a lot of internet marketers teach. I’ve been in the meetings where marketers laugh and high-five each other for how they manipulated and controlled their list using the tools of psychology to produce a herd and cult response.

If that’s the training you’re looking for you might as well unsubscribe now.

P.P.S. Just read this blog post from Bob the Teacher…

AWESOME thoughts!! Read, agree and apply.

  1. Hi Paul, I’m a new nicheology member. After hearing your webinar with jim edwards. ( i believed this webinar was recorded in 2008), i make up my mind to join nicheology. I just need fast way to launch a product.

I’m creating my first product + membership site. All material from nicheology. I had read a lot of your stuff. And thinking / brainstorming on how to make ‘meaning’ in my niche.

Keep up the good work, and your stuff did gave me a lot of new ideas…on how create ‘meaning’ to my niche.

  3. Thanks Paul for your generous and heartfelt commitment to helping. I’ve been fooled a few times by people who promised what they were not able to deliver. But I take some of that responsibility because I always think people are like me – honest. The thing is those folks that get a quick injection of cash will get just that a quick flow and then it stops. Wouldn’t it be horrible to have to re-build your entire business over and over again because you’ve not committed to the people you’re suppose to be helping.

On the other hand isn’t nice to know that even if you make a simple error your “tribe” will forgive you because you are who you are.

    Great post as always.

Paul, I love your philosophy. All the money in the world isn’t worth it if I can’t look myself in the mirror every day. It’s more fun to go through life being ourselves and succeeding because of who we are, rather than trying to manipulate to get to the same outcome.

Nice to see a fellow marketer who also likes helping people rather than trying to just make a quick buck.
Always be yourself as people can soon spot a fake.

    Love the post reguards Ian

Maybe the Java did it Paul but this is real “hundinger” of a post.

    :-)

It is very rare for an Internet Marketer to discuss “caring” and it made me think of all the people spamming FB, twitter etc busily trying to “be social” but without caring.

Also LOVE the part about authenticity.
