The Internet Marketing Bermuda Triangle

Internet Marketing's Bermuda Triangle

Have you noticed the giant Bermuda Triangle of Internet Marketing? People get sucked in, spend all their money, and are never heard from again.

It’s weird.

Folks go missing everyday.

A little spooky.

Sinister even.

After diving in for a little detective work, I think I have located the dark portal

About once a week I like to catch up on the latest internet marketing goings on. You know, check out the 534th launch of the week. See which big timer is releasing a $1997 product (conveniently divided into “affordable” payments). Check my email folder to see if this week’s “this changes everything!” count trumps last week’s. And, of course, wander into the forums to eaves drop on the latest rants.

It’s in that last location that I discovered why so many vanish.

And oddly enough it’s not hidden.

People are invited into the abyss right out in the open. No shame or anything.

(You gotta be glad it’s not an undercover plot or anything or maybe even more would evaporate.)

It’s reads…

“Main Internet Marketing Discussion Forum”

Whew. Innocent right? Well, check out the subtitle and tell me you don’t get chills. The last time I felt like this was when that Jaws chick was skinny dipping and didn’t know papa was hungry. (By the way, I saw that movie in a drive in theater when I was the tender age of seven. What?! Yep. I didn’t bathe for a year after that.)

Anyway, back to the chills. Check it. The subtitle…

“Where we talk about making money.”

And there you have it. Mystery solved.

You…are…welcome.

That “talking” business sends more people in the Triangle than anything else.

Right now there are 989 “talking” in the forum. It’s like they’re in a tractor-beam of fate or something.

They are in there talking about making money. Not making money. Talking about it. I’m thinking this could be part of the problem, right?

My further detective skills have discovered that that’s sort of like…

  • Talking about diet and exercise.
  • Talking about asking someone on a date.
  • Talking about “someday I’ll…”
  • Talking about letting “so and so know what and what” as you shake your first to add emotion.

And get this.

In that very same forum there’s a place to talk about self-improvement…

“This forum is dedicated to discussion on all topics related to self-improvement. This most certainly fits into a money-making forum because power, energy and creativity translates into being able to make more money.”

You know what? That’s right. Who you are directly impacts your profitability. (As I taught in Business Maxim #1 – The Better You Become the Better Your Business Becomes.)

Guess how many are in that area of the forum right now?

I know you’ll be shocked here as well.

Ready?

76.

No, I am not kidding.

918 more people are talking about making money than improving themselves so they can actually make more money.

O well, it’s enough to make your head dizzy. Sorta like the movie Inception with all those folding buildings and such.

However…

Everyone is not getting sucked into the gravitational pull of internet marketing doom (Thank goodness!).

Listen to this heroine…

Dear Paul,

My mother taught me when I was a kid to send thank you notes and this one is overdue. I want to share with you what a year in Nicheology has done for me.

All the content inside Nicheology is just tremendous.

I have utilized nearly the all the training resources at one time or another. As I would reach a point when I needed to learn my next step, I’d go to Nicheology and seek out a training on the subject; and as you know there’s something on just about every marketing subject inside.

I was also able to get questions answered on your live Q & A calls. That was a huge benefit to me.

I was constantly motivated by your emails. One I’ll always remember is how you told about losing your list, and several other devastating happenings in your online business, anyone of which by themselves would have made most people want to quit, but you never quit. That meant a lot to me when my hosting account was hijacked, 3 times, and I was repeatedly locked out of my own hosting account by hijackers, meanwhile I got an education in online security.

I used some of the PLR to develop a budget wedding planner product, to drive traffic to a wedding site, and for content. More plr to set up giveaways for squeeze pages on several topics and still more plr to use as articles to drive traffic to a pet site. I also used some pet PLR to create some content for a pet memebership site.

It has all led me to the point I am at now – I am almost ready to launch a live 4 part training series!

Jeff Wellman and Paul Counts had a challenge on one of their webinars called Creating a Diamond From the Rough. They taught how to take a cheesey no content PLR and turn it into a full blown training series. They challenged the attendees to take their no content 12 page ebook and turn it into a great ebook and 4 part Power Point training series. (*sidenote – there are no cheesey PLR in Nicheology)

Because of all the information I learned in Nicheology I had enough confidence in my knowledge to give their challenge a try and my product was selected. I am so very excited to have the opportunity to teach my own course Online Cash Crops- Simple methods to earn quick cash online, on 4 live webinars with Paul & Jeff. Each webinar will be completely free training for all attendees, the webinars will be recorded and at the end we will offer PLR to the video training course!

I remember asking you on one of your Q & A calls, “Do people really buy short little PLR reports for $5-$10?” Today, that question sounds so ridiculous to me, but you never laughed just answered my question.

My online marketing education has been a stair step process, but for me and anyone who subscribes to Nichology it is more like taking the escalator or the elevator to the next level, instead of the stairs.

Thank you so much.

Maureen Mancha

Well, well, well, there you have it.

It turns out that DOING things to make money will make you more than TALKING about making money.

Take that Bermuda Triangle!

Success is NOT an Accident!

  1. I have to totally agree with you on this one. I was guilty of this myself. I have since gotten much better.

thanks for all that you do and share with us.

  2. Hey Paul, the Warrior Forum and Nicheology and just about anything can become a “Bermuda Triangle”. I come across a lot of people who join membership sites and never do anything about it. A lot of folks don’t know how to manage their time.

I noticed you wrote that you check out the forums and what’s going on in the IM community: “About once a week”. That is the key. If folks managed their time spent on forums and what-not they would be finding success.

I enjoy visiting the forum because working from home can be isolating. A group of us from the warrior forum meet in person on a monthly bases here in Minneapolis and that’s been an asset for my business. If you manage your time wisely you can “talk about making money” as long as you follow up with something actionable once you’re done talking. :-)

So, I don’t think it’s a Bermuda Triangle unless you allow it to become one. Just like in Inception we can use our mind to get what we want.

Right on, Alan! The forum was a fun easy example to use. But no doubt that anything can become the triangle.
