You Can Make It

On September 19, 2009, in online business, by Paul Evans

It’s Simple Life Saturday.

http://nicheologyprofitletter.com/2009/09/simple-life/

It’s been a great week!

-Collected $10K for orphans! (If nothing else went right this week, that would make it a success!)

-Guest on a webinar with Carrie Wilkerson for her Pink Slip Series.

-Guest on an upcoming training series Jonathan Gunson is releasing.

-Guest on John Morgan’s marketing coaching call.

-A lot of high-quality, super new members at AffiliateDrivenProfits.com  People you just love to work with. (Honestly, I was afraid that a site at this price would attract whiners. Instead, the super-sharp have shown up.)

-Updated Nicheology with an Animoto tutorial, Products in the Rough and Product Profiles.

-Revamped an old project.

-Worked on a new release.

What does this have to do with YOU?

Two words…

KEEP GOING!

Keep working.

Don’t give up.

Keep learning.

Keep applying.

Get something productive done in your business TODAY.

You can do it.

You can make it.

There are thousands of people online right now who are so close to quitting AND so close to making it!

Look at my list above.

All that is happening NOW because I didn’t give up.

When my domain expired on a day when I had spent $2500 on traffic, I didn’t quit.

When I couldn’t get anyone to promote my first product, I didn’t quit.

When my first website looked so bad it embarrassed the family, I didn’t quit.

When I lost a product that was 85% complete to a power surge, I didn’t quit.

When I couldn’t figure out how to make a header graphic that didn’t look like crap, I didn’t quit.

When I lost a 32,000 member email list when my auto-responder went out of business, I didn’t quit.

When a programmer went awol and refused to update my membership software and a 700 member site went to 76 members, I didn’t quit. (I won’t lie I WANTED to quit!!!!) :-)

When a programmer could/wouldn’t fix the affiliate software and I had to figure out affiliate commissions manually and create manual payments, I didn’t quit.

When my shopping cart company had a problem during one of my launches and 93 new high-paying members were lost forever, I didn’t quit.

You get my drift. :-)

You can make it, but you’re going to WANT to give up and quit.

Don’t.

The “simple life” comes to those who keep going. Those who don’t give up. Those who keep going when the going blows up.

You can make it.

Success is NOT an Accident!

  2. Hi Paul,
Your list of challenges made me laugh as I was reminded of the mountain of adversities that have been an integral part of my own learning curve, and to see that I am not alone in my struggles. It’s good to see them from a fresh perspective.

This post landed on a great day for me as well… thanks for helping me to remember why I continue to do what I do!

  5. Great Stuff Paul.

So much of your story resonates with me,I feel like I could write a book on on the things that have gone wrong in my pursuit of an IM career. I did give up once after getting hosed out of a lot of money.

But like most people visiting your blog,I am an entrepreneur at heart and I just couldn’t stick with quiting =).

I am always encouraged and motivated when I see and hear the trials that have been overcome by those who have had success and victories in the IM world. It lets me know I am on the right track.

    Blessings.

  6. Wow! So many times when you’ve hit every roadblock or a host of tangible/intangible obstacles and you figure life or that sneaky voice in your head is telling you to give up, the answer or another dose of resolve comes to help you. I asked St. Jude (patron saint of lost causes) to help me last night. And then this morning I read your reprise of “You can Make It” of September 2009.

I continually feel like Robert described so well above, plus I have been gouged and ripped off by “coaches” who aren’t what they advertise, and yet I have kept going although in fits and stops… And now so terribly in debt. Thank you for taking the time to send this out again. You probably can’t imagine how much a little bit of humanity, reality and inspiration can help.

I am on disability now; and, with success through an Internet business, I will change all of that. After reading your post, I cleaned off my desk and found an inspirational card I used to have on my computer. It’s back up again. It says:
    STRENGTH
Don’t Give Up—You will need: *TENACITY * FOCUS
    and then a quote:
“Strength does not come from physical capacity. It comes from an indomitable will.” —Mohandas K. Gandhi

Paul, you are inspirational! Thank you, again.

    Craig Maxwell :

Hey Larry. Sorry to hear about your health problems. That is a hurdle I can not imagine. Just wanted to send you an encouragement to not give up. I know you lost a lot of stuff on your computer, and that is a huge bummer. I have had similar experiences.

But I also want to mention that it may be a blessing in disguise. So many people trying to make it in the Internet Marketing World fall into the trap of information gathering. They keep learning and collecting, but never doing. (Including me, I have fallen prey to that more times that I care to admit). I am not saying you have fallen prey to that, but I am going to say, you probably don’t need all that stuff you lost. Everything Paul is sending out to you, (or pick another credible Internet Marketer) is probably everything you need information wise to make it work. I have tried to limit myself to just a few of the IM’ers I trust for my on going education, (Paul Carrie Wilkerson, Jimmy D. Brown) . This helps me avoid information overload, and what some have dubbed as Paralysis by Analysis .

I think a lot of us could become a whole lot more focused and less distracted if we had our hard drive’s erased.
And on that thought, I think I will go delete some stuff off my hard drive. =)

P.S. I prayed for you and your health concerns today at 10:46 am. Blessings.

  23. Paul,

Thank you so much for this heartfelt post! I’ve seen a few of my clients giving up on adding internet marketing to their current business. Just a few weeks ago one of my clients who’s been working at adding info products to her consulting business told me she was giving up.

That was really hard to read. But last week while I was watching your webinar with Carrie and I thought of my client! She was getting so frustrated making her own products and everything, but had never tried affiliate marketing.

So I sent her a quick email for her to check out your webinar with Carrie.

And you’re right that there are so many times when we could all quit trying. When I was starting my latest company there were times I wanted to throw in the towel, but I had family, friends, and a mastermind group to support me.

Thank you for your great motivation you always provide in your emails and blog posts!

Grace and Robert… Keep going!!! I’m working on a new release. Based on keeping online business simple. I’m gifting you guys a copy. Your words are an encouragement and also a reminder. We’re making it too difficult.

Robert, hopefully I can give a full response later this week… “With all the lies and crap that I keep seeing coming into my inbox daily, and most of it nothing more than rehashed worn-out junk that was junk when it first came out. Certainly, there is some good material, but I can’t seem to get between the trash to find it.”

I hate to admit it, but you’re right.

There are a ton of lies being told. A lot of crap being sold.

The next 3 issues of the profit letter should help clarify a bit.

    Peace,
    Paul

    Hey Paul,
Man, you musta been readin’ my mail today.

Everything you said in this post hit me so hard. I mean, these are not the ACTUAL THINGS that I have had to go through, but in my own world, they might as well have been.

I was actually sitting here at my computer this very hour, just wondering why the heck I am even trying. With all the lies and crap that I keep seeing coming into my inbox daily, and most of it nothing more than rehashed worn-out junk that was junk when it first came out. Certainly, there is some good material, but I can’t seem to get between the trash to find it. Totally ready to just give up and quit. My back is killing me, I have denied myself sleep, I am just about worn too thin – BUT THEN—-

I open one more e-mail. It’s from PAUL EVANS at NICHEOLOGY. Hey, I saw this guy on stage live at an event in Atlanta in March. Man, was he full of energy. Just seeming to BURST at the seams with enthusiasm about this thing called Internet Marketing. He gave me hopes then. Hopes that had since seemed to dwindle to little more than 12 hour days in my office in front of my computer, trying to decipher just one more technique that I thought would finally help me to MAKE IT!

Then I saw this e-mail. I had to just back up and breath deep, maybe choke back an honest tear because I am so tired. But, I read this again. And I remembered that ole’ country boy from Alabama, just next door to where I live, standin’ on that stage telling me -”Success Is Not An Accident” –

So Paul, just a great big THANK YOU! for reminding me that all that I have done will not go to waste. That I am on the verge of breaking through. You have been an inspiration to me – that day in Atlanta – and TONITE! THANKS.

P.S. – Who knows, maybe one day I can just shoot across the Ga.state line and take you out and buy you lunch. Maybe!

    Many Thanks,
    Robert

Thanks for all the GREAT comments!

Listen, that’s just the business side of “adversity” I’ve faced in life.

But I wouldn’t trade it for anything. Loss has taught me much more about success than “success” has. The key is to keep going.

I’m extremely blessed. People always tell me that everything falls in my lap and they would like to be lucky like me. I just laugh. My luck is directly proportionate to my faith, effort, personal growth and network. :-)

Going to read a bit of “The Lost Symbol” by Dan Brown. On page 220 and started yesterday.

Before going, let me give you two ounces of gold. Sort of a reward for reading the comments section.

Outside of not giving up, two components have contributed more to my success than anything else…

    1. Learning to communicate. If you want to make a lot of money learn public speaking. Products are basically speeches. Articles are speeches. And if you can speak in front of a crowd you can do video and audio products. You also gain massive confidence and it flows through everything you do.

There’s not enough room to tell you all the advantages of learning public/professional speaking. Just do it.

    2. Learn to speed read. I’m actually reading “The Lost Symbol” at a slower pace. But speed reading lets you read more (consume more knowledge), and it let’s you retain more.

Your productivity and product creation will exponentially increase if you apply those two points.

    Success is NOT an Accident,
    Paul

This is a very encouraging letter and there must have been a million times that I wanted to just throw my hands up and forget the whole thing, but a major character flaw for me is…

    Resolve.

Once I’ve resolved to do something, not doing it is not an option even though I want to pull what’s left of my hair out sometimes.

Funny thing is, like you said, you keep going and somehow it all works out.

Well this email/post was THE right think I needed, I have a real problem with quitting things, the things I have stuck with turned out to be worth it.

I have a few more excuses to add to my quitting list, pretty pathetic, I know.

Anyway I’ve had a pretty eventful week. I passed the first set of testing to be able to go to the next phase of training with my job. I have two more weeks of training, then if I pass I’m allowed to go to the next phase, The job.

I work from my home because I am disabled. I first worked for the IRS from home, this time I will be certified as a Level one Customer Care Technician for a ISP provider.

With all of this going on my business goals have gone by the wayside. I have too many things going on at the same time. I am responsible for putting myself in this situation too. I have alot of ideas that I want to incorporate into my business. The only problem is I start something for a while, it gets too hard so I start something else. So I’m left with a whole lot of nothing.

Oh did I mention that I am going to finish the Web Design course at Sessions. I’m going to finish it no matter how PO’d I get a photoshop. Just like Paul says, Success is NOT an Accident. You have to work at it.

After reading Paul’s post today. I though well golly Gomer, if he had all of these hard circumstances that could of gotten in the way of his success, but he continued, so can I.

I just wanted to let you know too Paul. Shortly after joining Nicheology I started this writing program. The task was just write. Didn’t matter if it made any sense, no correct grammar or any of those other things that stifle one’s creativity. Just write. The only rule was, write for 20 minutes, every day when you first wake up and do this for two weeks. Well I made it to day 9. That was it. I got wrapped up in something else and didn’t even think about it until later in the day. So I quit.

But back to the drawing board I am Paul, thanks to you.
This is getting way too long so, I’m signing off
    Cheers Paul

  41. Great post Paul.

So often is the case set backs are illustrated in the context of really big ones like W. Mitchell or Michael J. Fox, which are great life lessons as well.

For me those povide a dose of reality when we all get set upon by small ones and think about complaining for any length of time before we realize how absurd it is…….

Your post goes a long way in reminding us to be resiliant to the every day obsticles we all face, and that the more you condition your self to keep going like the athlete going for a triathalon or the Boston Marathon, the more likely we are to cross the finish line.

The only thought I would add is to also understand that negatives DO have a 10 to 1 ripple effect (all the more reason to BE resiliant, and that Neutrals have a 5 to 1 negative effect and Positives take 10 times the effort and energy to creat meaningful results to HAVE success.

So it’s back to BE DO HAVE
DO the things Paul suggests to BE a great Nichologist and you’ll HAVE a succesful business!
